ABOUT
GLP is a USAC Community Service Commission project at UCLA.
We are a student-initiated and student-led service project.
Glendale Learning Program (GLP) was originally established in 1989 as the Armenian Tutorial Project. It served to aid the transition of new Armenian immigrant families into the Glendale area. However, since the program's establishment, the needs of the Glendale community have changed, and GLP has evolved to better address those needs in regards to education. Today, GLP works with a diverse group of students. It is the program's mission to empower its students through tutoring and mentorship so that they not only gain the confidence to succeed academically, but also a life-long love for learning. In addition, it is the program's wish that its students are inspired to pursue a higher education, and are knowledgable of the career paths it can lead to.
Our Site at Woodrow Wilson Middle School
GLP currently serves the students of both Woodrow Wilson Middle School and Theodore Roosevelt Middle School in Glendale, CA. Volunteers work one-on-one with students (grades 6th to 8th) to help them complete their school work and reinforce key concepts. Additionally, students are guided through a 30 minute activity that exposes them to topics in health, STEM, or environment/sustainability. Tutoring for Wilson students takes place on select Saturdays from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm with transportation and a small breakfast provided for volunteers while tutoring for Roosevelt students takes place on select Mondays from 3:05 pm to 4:35 pm.
A Typical Day for Tutors at Woodrow Wilson

9:00am Volunteers meet for pick up.

9:05am - 9:50am Drive to site and set up supplies in the cafeteria.

10:00am - 10:15am Greet students and begin the warm up activity.

10:15am - 11:00am First tutoring block.

11:00am - 11:15am Snack break for students. Volunteers are provided a small breakfast.

11:15am - 12:00pm Second tutoring block.

12:00pm - 12:30pm Enrichment activity and clean up.
